Sustainability profiles of ten campus buildings will be formed thanks to auditing undertaken by UWA students last month.

Selected due to their higher levels of energy use, the buildings' equipment, appliances and light fittings were assessed to identify opportunities to reduce power through technical applications.

Opportunities to reduce water use and waste were also identified.

The auditing was coordinated by Guild Volunteering with ten students donating their time to the project.

Volunteer, Brandon Hayward said he joined the project because he wanted to contribute to a cause that, as a Bachelor of Science student, he felt passionate about - sustainability.

He said the University, through "proactively implementing sustainability programs", demonstrated "its leadership to activating change".

"As an internationally respected university, UWA needs to maintain its position at the forefront of its endeavours, specifically with regards to its commitment to corporate social responsibility," he said.

The auditing results will advise future actions to achieve sustainability goals, set out in the newly released Sustainable Development Plan .

All buildings assessed are part of the University's Green Building Program , focused on reducing environmental and social impact through staff and student engagement, technical applications and administrative policy.
