Eminent geologist and geophysicist Lord Ron Oxburgh will give a free public lecture, Energy and Water for a Warm Crowded World, at The University of Western Australia next Monday.
Former Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK's Ministry of Defence, Lord Oxburgh also served as chairman of Shell Transport and Trading Company until its merger with Royal Dutch Petroleum in 2005. He is currently President of the Carbon Capture and Storage Association and Chairman of 2OC and GEO, small greentec startups.
In his talk, Lord Oxburgh will examine the global quest of providing energy and water for nine billion people.
"The challenge is to meet these needs while neither destroying the other ecosystems on which we depend nor pushing the earth's climate yet further from the norm of the last 10,000 years, and moreover, to do this during a major world financial crisis," he said.
The lecture is sponsored by the Institute of Advanced Studies and the Centre for Water Research at UWA.
