UWA Publishing book
Counterpoint
, by Anna Enquist and translated from Dutch by Jeannette K. Ringold, has been longlisted for the 2012 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.
The award is presented annually for a novel written in English or translated into English, and is the largest and most international prize of its kind. The winner receives €100,000 prize money if the book is written in English and a trophy provided by Dublin City Council, and if the winning book is in an English translation, the author receives €75,000 and the translator, €25,000.
International libraries are invited to nominate books for this award. The libraries' comments on
Counterpoint
included, "The reader does not need to know that the author's grief is real, to be moved by this novel, but knowledge of the reality to which it relates adds an extra dimension. The novel is an exercise in control and at the same time, a painful cry from the heart".
This is the second time that a UWAP book has been nominated for this award;
The Seamstress
by Geraldine Wooller was longlisted for the 2009 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award.
The English translation of another UWAP book,
Bride Flight
by Marieke van der Pol, was also longlisted for this year's award, published by the book's UK publisher, Portobello Books.
The shortlisted titles will be announced in April 2012, and the winner will be announced at an award presentation in Dublin in June 2012. The complete list of the longlisted books is available on the
International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award website
