On Friday 4 th November the School of Indigenous Studies recognised the graduates of the 2011 Aboriginal Orientation Course and also students completing undergraduate and postgraduate courses in 2011.

Over 150 people (students' friends and family and UWA staff) joined the students in celebrating their successes.  One of the highlights of the ceremony was Orientation students, Kyani Byron, Justin Dhu, David Hinder impromptu speeches on their experiences in a recent field trip to APY Lands, Angatja community and Yulara, with Jamie Kennedy-Fillery sharing his version of the experience in song.

Another highlight was the recognition of completion of studies for Dezreena Hoelker (Arts), Jesse Fatnowna (Commerce), Raphael Mannel (Health Science), Andrea McKivett and Daniela Sabbioni (Medicine), Chantel Thorn (Dentistry), Peta Braedon (Graduate Diploma of Arts), and Jeromy Harvey (MBA). In all, 20 Indigenous students have completed/are completing their undergraduate or postgraduate studies this semester and will graduate in March 2012 - UWA's largest number of Indigenous graduates in one year.

Winthrop Professor Jill Milroy, Dean of the School of Indigenous Studies thanked Professor Alan Robson for his commitment to the School during his years as Vice-Chancellor and presented him with gifts or appreciation.

Following the official ceremony, all students, families and friends celebrated the evening and Western Australian Student Aboriginal Corporation's (WASAC) 21st birthday with dinner and drinks at Shenton House. Cameron Howard, WASAC Chair for 2011 gave a brief address on WASAC's achievements for 2011 and also presented Professor Alan Robson with a painting from Kalumburu community on behalf of the student body.
