Choristers from around Perth will get together soon for the third annual Sing It! concert, promoting the benefits of singing.

Sponsored by Healthway's Act-Belong-Commit Singing: A Healthy Way to Live project at The University of Western Australia, the performance promotes physical and mental well being through music and community.

Project leader and Winthrop Professor Jane Davidson said: "Group singing brings emotional communion, physical benefits like breath control, and mental stimulation like use of memory to all participants."

Collaborators in the performance include Healthway project choirs People Who Care , Stirling Silver Singers , Friends in Harmony, Viva Voices , and Harbourside Harmony as well as other local groups Fremantle Ladies Choir , Parkinsong , Catch Music , and Rejoyce .  The program, consisting of traditional songs, showtunes, popular standards and classical choral pieces, will include something for everyone.

This event coincides with State Seniors' Week and, in addition to younger performers, will feature older members of the community who have found joy and friendship through participation in local choirs.  For more information on how you or someone you love can get involved in a community choir for seniors, contact UWA School of Music Research Officer Rebekah Prince at 6488 8163.

Entry to Sing It! 2011 is by gold coin donation.  The concert starts at 1pm at the Perth Town Hall on Saturday, November 5.
