Last Saturday evening saw the hallowed Winthrop Hall home to a concert of great breadth and extraordinary talent.

The event saw concertgoers leave uplifted and under no illusion about the remarkable talent being nurtured at the School of Music, UWA.

The program of events for the Artistry! 6 Culmination Concert included performances by finalists in the Vose Memorial Prize.  Alexander McCracken performed Copland's Clarinet Concerto ; Sisters Sophie and Jasmin Parkinson-Stewart gave a rendition of Brahms' Concerto for Violin and Cello and Jeremy Huynh, in his second finals appearance brought Dvorak's Concerto for Cello to life.  All three finalists gave a stunning performance with Alexander McCracken taking out the coveted prize, and Sophie and Jasmin being awarded the inaugural People's Choice award by enthusiastic concertgoers.

Sarah-Janet Brittenden, renowned mezzo-soprano and staff member at the School of Music, led The Winthrop Singers, conducted by Associate Professor Nicholas Bannan in Copland's work, In the Beginning .  Sarah-Janet's hauntingly beautiful voice was ably supported by this talented group of School of Music singers.

The UWA Symphonic Orchestra demonstrated substantial skill in performing two diverse pieces.  Firstly, composition student Stefan Pugliese's piece Ring/Resonance composed specifically for this event.  Stefan is the 2011 recipient of the Dorothy Ellen Ransom prize and demonstrates real talent.  The Orchestra then wowed the audience with their exceptional professionalism and precision in completing the four movements of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5, Op 64 to the highest standard.

A great celebration of a prolific year at the School of Music.
