‘Australian Government Approaches to Islam' is the title of a lecture to be given by Mr Andrew Metcalfe, Secretary of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, at The University of Western Australia.

Mr Metcalfe has served as the Secretary of Immigration since 2005.  He is a member of the Administrative Review Council and a board member of the National Australia Day Council.  He is also an ex-officio member of the Australian Multicultural Council.

He has chaired the Commonwealth-State Standing Committee on Immigration and Multicultural Affairs and is a member of the Public Service Medal Committee.

Mr Metcalfe is President of the Institute of Public Administration and is a White Ribbon Ambassador.  In 2008, he was Patron of the Gundaroo Bush Festival.  He was also the inaugural chair of the National Counter-Terrorism Committee and was an ex-officio member of the Council of the Order of Australia.
