The inventor of the cervical cancer vaccine, Professor Ian Frazer, will give the 2011 Ian Constable Lecture at The University of Western Australia, on how to live a long and healthy life.

Australian of the Year (2006) and Chief Executive Officer of Queensland's Translational Research Institute (TRI), Professor Frazer's work will revolutionise women's health.

The new TRI will allow - for the first time in Australia - bio-pharmaceuticals and treatments to be discovered, produced, clinically tested and manufactured in one location.

The annual lecture honours Professor Ian Constable, recognised as one of the world's leading ophthalmic surgeons.  In 1975 he was appointed by UWA to the Lions Foundation Chair of Ophthalmology.  In 1983 he established the Lions Eye Institute LEI) to address the escalating incidence of blindness.

Professor Frazer is collaborating with LEI to develop immunological therapies for cancer, chronic infection and autoimmunity.

His lecture is entitled: Now, free and perfect?  How to live a long and healthy life in the 21 st century.
