The University of Western Australia's Winthrop Hall is pink for a week to mark the official launch of the National Breast Cancer Foundation's annual Pink Ribbon Month.

Last year UWA was unable to support the Global Illumination campaign as it had in previous years because of hail storm damage to Winthrop Hall.

During the campaign, Australian universities and public buildings including Federal Parliament House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Brisbane City Hall and Melbourne's Etihad Stadium light up in pink to illuminate the critical role of research in increasing our understanding of breast cancer.

Illuminating UWA's Winthrop Hall acknowledges that ongoing, sustained research is what holds the key to unlocking the mysteries of this devastating disease, which claims the lives of more than 2,600 women and 95 men every year in Australia.

UWA researchers are producing world class results in cancer research, including breast cancer.
