More than 300 school students from around Western Australia were joined recently for a morning tea by nearly 80 scientists from a range of organisations including UWA, Scitech, CSIRO and the WA Museum.

The Science Café was held in Winthrop Hall in August as part of National Science Week.

Professor Lyn Beazley, Chief Scientist of Western Australia, hosted the event which gave students the opportunity to speak one-on-one with scientists to find out what inspired them to take up science and where their science careers have led them.

All students also had the opportunity to hear from guest speaker and Nobel Laureate Professor Barry Marshall, who spoke about his path to science and the discovery which saw him win the 2005 Nobel Prize.

UWA PhD student Tristan Clemons also spoke about his research project which is focused on developing nanoparticles to help deliver therapeutic agents to an injured central nervous system in an attempt to aid in nerve regrowth.
