With summer fast approaching, UWA Extension is running a new course in preparing for bushfires.

The full-day workshop , to be held on Saturday, October 22, aims to provide information on better understanding the risk of bushfire, how to "evacuate early" or "stay and actively defend" your property, and how to prepare a bushfire survival plan.

Rohan Carboon, Managing Director of Bushfire Safety Consulting, will run the course, which begins with a quick introduction to Community Bushfire Safety legislation and policy, outlining who is responsible for what, the property owner's important role in the system and who they can rely on.

Participants will learn to understand their level of risk by examining how bushfires behave (looking at recent WA examples), factors that affect house loss and trends in bushfire fatalities.
