Lines for Birds: Poems and Paintings , by Barry Hill and John Wolseley, has been shortlisted for the 2011 Queensland Premier's Literary Awards.

The book, which is shortlisted for the Poetry Award, is the result of a rich collaboration between two distinguished artists: words by award-winning poet Barry Hill, and images by acclaimed painter John Wolseley.

Lines for Birds captures the very essence of Bird - its energy, inquisitiveness and daring - and follows the flight paths and habitats of birds, from the Victorian Mallee to the forests of South East Asia, to Japan and the South of France.

"This deserving book celebrates the beauty of the world's fauna and highlights the global importance of preserving their natural habitats," UWA Publishing Director Terri-ann White said.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on Tuesday 6 September.
