Staff who provide advice to students are invited to forums in August to be introduced to some of the strategies Student Services is putting in place to support advisers.

The NC2012 hub and spokes student advice model was developed to accommodate the University-wide nature of undergraduate degrees. Many students will study across disciplines. The model recognises the integrated nature of student advising and adapts standard structures and common rules to enable a more consistent approach to student advising across the University.

Throughout 2011, a series of workshops were held with senior advisers from faculties and central administration to assist in the development and implementation of the model.  Following the success of these workshops, all advising staff are invited to attend the August forums.

Topics covered will include the handbook, recording advice, referring students and best practice in student advising.  Staff will have the opportunity to provide feedback and participate in discussion.

The August forums are preparatory sessions for the November 2011 scheduled launch of the new student advising model.  During November a series of professional development activities will be offered to support staff preparing for New Courses 2012.
