‘Bringing Robots to Life'
Tuesday 16 August 1.30pm - 2.30pm, Social Sciences Lecture Theatre
A free lecture for school students hosted by international guests Hanson Robotics. Hanson Robotics was founded by Dr David Hanson in 2003 to bring robots to life, literally. Their goal, to awaken intelligent robotic beings, grant them sparks of true consciousness and creativity, and distribute these beings and their constituent technologies into the world.

The Hanson Robotics presentation will cover humanlike robotics, the mechanics of a robots face, intelligent software, bio-inspired nanotech materials, cognitive science using robots and the application of robots in research and the arts.

The Warped Side of the Universe: A future astronomy for Western Australia
Tuesday 16 August 5.30 - 6.30pm, Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery
A free public lecture hosted by ANU and UWA, presented by Professor David McClelland (ANU) and Professor David Blair (UWA). The lecture will explain how gravitational wave telescopes work and illuminate the exciting physics, astrophysics and cosmology that can be done with a global array of such telescopes.

Science Café
Wednesday 17 August 9.30am - 12.00pm, Winthrop Hall
Hosted by Professor Lyn Beazley, Chief Scientist of Western Australia, the Science Café caters for students in Years 9 to 11. Nearly 300 students will hear from Nobel Laureate Professor Barry Marshall about what makes him tick, before speaking one-on-one with Western Australian scientists from a wide range of organisations to find out what inspired them to take up science and where their science careers have taken them.

SCINEMA Film Festival
Scinema, an event showcasing film, video and multimedia will screen in the Science Library foyer throughout National Science Week. Each day will feature short films on a different scientific topic.
