As of 1 July 2011, the mass spectrometry (MS), nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry (NMR) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) facilities have been transferred to CMCA operation and management, under the name CMCA@Bayliss .

The transfer is expected to improve access to these facilities for all UWA staff and students.  The facilities, previously provided by the School of Biomedical, Biomolecular and Chemical Sciences in the Bayliss Building, will remain in their current locations and continue to be operated by existing staff.

The Centre for Microscopy, Characterisation and Analysis (CMCA) is the University's core facility for the provision of high-end research infrastructure in characterisation and related areas.

CMCA is working to make the transition as seamless as possible.  Existing users will notice some changes to access arrangements over the coming 6-12 months as operations are brought in line with CMCA access arrangements elsewhere.  Details for new and existing users are available on the CMCA website and a Q&A will be regularly updated to answer questions relating to the transfer.  Alternatively, contact CMCA on 6488 2770.

The new arrangements should see increased use of these world-class facilities, as well as wider opportunities for continued investment in cutting-edge capabilities in these areas.
