The UWA Business School Board is delighted to announce Diane Smith-Gander as its newest member.

Ms Smith-Gander, who is currently a Director of Wesfarmers, Transfield, CBH, the National Broadband Network, and the Chair of Basketball Australia said she is looking forward to helping shape the future of business education in Western Australia.

‘I am delighted to be honoured with this appointment at such an important time in the school's history, as the transition occurs from the current Dean, Tracey Horton, to the new Dean, Phillip Dolan,' said Smith-Gander.

‘As a graduate of UWA in a business discipline in the 1980s, I am greatly envious of the world-class facilities that are available to the University's business students today.  Being part of the external Board stewarding these facilities is a challenge I am eager to embrace.'

Mark Barnaba, Chair, UWA Business School Board, welcomed the appointment of Ms Smith-Gander to the Board. ‘Diane has an impressive track record in senior roles across diverse industries and brings a depth of experience from these roles.  She will make a great contribution  to the Board' said Mr Barnaba.

Business School Dean, Winthrop Professor Tracey Horton emphasised the value contributed to the Business School by its Board. "We are privileged to have a high-calibre Board enthusiastically committed to supporting us in setting and achieving our strategic goals and vision. I am delighted that one of our own very successful graduates, Diane Smith-Gander, has agreed to join the Board."

Ms Smith-Gander holds an MBA from the University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Economics from The University of Western Australia. She is a graduate and Fellow of AICD.

Ms Smith-Gander will take up her position in July 2011.
