Perth International Arts Festival Program Manager Evan Kennea has been appointed head of artistic planning at the WA Symphony Orchestra.

A graduate of The University of Western Australia, Evan Kennea studied composition with Roger Smalley before completing further studies in London and The Hague.

Mr Kennea will work with WASO principal conductor Paul Daniel to program concerts, commission new works and organise the musicians and the orchestra's other artistic affairs.

In a statement released by WASO Chief Executive Craig Whitehead said he was delighted that an excellent Australian candidate had been selected.
