Four staff members from The University of Western Australia have won acclaim for their teaching in the 2011 Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.

UWA's award recipients are:

  • Winthrop Professor Izan Izan, Business School: for 30 years of outstanding teaching, supervision and university service, improving the overall experience of business school students.
  • Associate Professor Natalie Skead, Law School: for bringing law to life and life to law through relevant and interactive skills-based teaching, graduating inspired and inspiring lawyers with a love for law.
  • Dr Krystyna Haq, Graduate Research and Scholarships Office: for sustained, excellent and varied contributions that enrich learning and the experience of university for students and staff, with a recent focus on research training.
  • Ms Siri Barrett-Lennard, Student Support Services: for leadership and innovation in improving international student engagement and success through the development of outstanding English language and academic skills programs.

UWA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alan Robson, said the University's success and reputation for excellence was very much based on the quality of its staff.

"Our aim is to create a first-class teaching, learning and research environment while nurturing and developing high-quality staff at all levels and across all areas of the University," Professor Robson said.

ALTC Citations , valued at $10,000 each, are awarded nationally to both academic and professional staff who have made significant contributions to student learning over a sustained period.  The total of 185 individuals and 25 teams will receive their awards on August 16 at the Sydney Opera House.
