Australian and international standards are a fundamental resource in many discipline areas, particularly science, technology and medicine.

Information Services is currently trialling access to international standards via the SAI Global database. In addition to our current subscription to Australian standards, Information Services has provided additional funding during 2011 to trial access to international standards, some of which can be searched and requested via the SAI Global database. This additional funding will be used to cover the cost of the international standards requested.

Standards developed by the following international standards organisations are available:

International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)
International Standards Organisation (ISO)
European Standards Organisation (CEN/EN)
European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI)
National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI)
Japanese Standards Association (JSA/JIS)

UWA staff members and postgraduates can search for a particular international standard and click on the ‘Request to be Unlocked’ button. This request is then sent to Information Services staff and if approved, the standard is unlocked and added to our subscription. Once unlocked the standard is available to all UWA staff and students until the end of the calendar year.

American National Standards Institute (ANSI), British Standards Institution (BSI), German Institute for Standardisation (DIN) and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standards can also be searched, but these standards cannot be accessed through our subscription.
