UWA Business School
Graduates are no longer interested in making an impression, but instead in making an impact, according to UWA Business School Visiting Professor Tina Dacin who presented a number of public and academic lectures during her week at UWA as a guest of the Stan and Jean Perron Visiting Professor program.

Professor Dacin is the Professor of Strategy and Organisational Behaviour at Queen's University, Canada with research interests in social innovation/entrepreneurship, and strategic alliances. She spoke on the increasing opportunities for social innovation to be used as a vehicle in addressing today's social needs.

Professor Dacin said that social innovation was a response to the critical need of the world and the rising dissatisfaction of traditional models of corporate social responsibility and philanthropy.

"There are a new generation of people who are a generation of doers and they are using social media to issue calls for help.  We are looking for heroes and we want to feel good."

She said that from launching new courses to the emergence of design principles and incubators, students and practitioners were seeking to understand how to leverage and accelerate social  innovation to address a wide range of issues, including sustainability,  poverty, education, citizen engagement and healthy communities.

Professor Dacin encouraged everyone to consider the promise of what could be achieved through co-generation of value and connecting to a broader movement of optimism.
