UWA Publishing authors Donna Green and Liz Minchin ( Screw Light Bulbs ) have been announced as finalists in the United Nations Association of Australia's 2011 World Environment Day Awards.

Green and Minchin are one of three finalists in the running for the Media Award for Environmental Reporting for their book Screw Light Bulbs: Smarter ways to save Australians time and money , published in 2010.

Screw Light Bulbs is a book about how Australians can get serious about tackling climate change while dealing with many of the other problems we face. Based on years of research and behind-the-scenes interviews, it shows how everyone - from individuals to businesses and governments, in small towns and big cities - can make a difference.

Dr Donna Green was a founding member of the University of New South Wales' Climate Change Research Centre, where she works on energy policy and climate change impacts, and a contributing author to the 2007 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report, as well as advising on climate policy around the world.

Liz Minchin is an award-winning journalist with The Age newspaper, whose coverage of climate change won the 2007 United Nations Association of Australia's national prize for best environmental reporting, and is also a winner of a Walkley award, Australia's top prize for journalism.

UWA Publishing director, Terri-ann White was thrilled with the nomination and said that it is wonderful to see that the researchers have been recognised with this award.

Award winners will be announced at an Awards Presentation Dinner to be held at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne on Friday 3 June, 2011.
