The 2011 Momentum Partners UWA Business School Management Consulting Challenge has again showcased the talents of UWA Business School students.

This year, 39 teams of undergraduate students competed to provide the best strategic business plan for Silver Chain, WA's largest healthcare provider.

Five teams were chosen as finalists, and presented their strategic plans to the judging panel, consisting of representatives from Momentum Partners' Director Group, CEO of Silver Chain, Senior Manager from Verve Energy and UWA Business School Winthrop Professor Gary Stockport.

The winning team, Amaroo, comprised Rein Duim (3rd year Economics/Commerce); Amber Cartwright (3rd year Commerce); Adele Pisano (4th year Communication Studies/Commerce); Jimmy Tran (5th year Law/Commerce); and Pierce Van Halewyn (3rd year Economics/Commerce).

The runners-up were Four Strikes, comprising Luke Whyte (3rd year Commerce); Ilona Quahe (3rd year Law/Commerce); and Rachel Lee (3rd year Law/Arts).

This was the second year in which the Management Consulting Challenge has been run. It attracted 39 teams in 2011, up from 24 teams in 2010. In both years, the competition has been co-ordinated by Michael Sutherland, the Business School's Undergraduate Student Experience Co-ordinator.

Winthrop Professor Gary Stockport commended the students. ‘All of the student group Strategy presentations were of a very high standard and the students were a credit to our Business School,' he said.

The Momentum Partners UWA Business School Management Consulting Challenge is a case study based competition for three to five person teams predominantly comprising penultimate year and final year Business students. Teams are given an opportunity to deliver recommendations to a "Board" on real-life business issues relevant to the corporate sponsor of the management consulting challenge.

Winning teams are selected on the basis of their problem solving approach; the quality of their analysis and recommendations; and their written and oral communication skills.

The year's winning team received $2,000 prize money and the runners-up $1,000.
