When the TV miniseries Cloudstreet premieres in May, many viewers with connections to UWA will have a sense of déjà vu.

Parts of the university's Crawley campus - including Winthrop Hall and the area near the Sunken Gardens - were used as backdrops in filming the TV adaptation of Tim Winton's acclaimed novel.

The miniseries follows the fortunes of two working class families - the Pickles and the Lambs - and was largely shot nearby at the old Sunset Hospital in Dalkeith.

The production features well-known Australian actors including Geoff Morrell, Stephen Curry, Essie Davis, Emma Booth and Lara Robinson.

UWA also has another connection with the Cloudstreet program.  The miniseries was made by Screentime, which has produced programs such as Underbelly and the medical drama MDA (Medical Defence Australia).

Screentime was co-founded by the prominent TV producer Rob Campbell, a UWA economics graduate.

The miniseries will premiere at 8.30pm on Sunday 22 May on Foxtel/Austar's Showcase channel.
