The diseases of ageing including Alzheimer's, dementia, stroke and Parkinson's disease will be the focus of the 2011 Symposium of Western Australian Neuroscience to be held on 29 April at The University of Western Australia.

The internationally renowned Chair of Molecular Biology and Director of the Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Laboratory at the Brain and Mind Research Institute of the University of Sydney, Jürgen Götz, will talk about the mechanics of Alzheimer's disease.

UWA's Winthrop Professor of Geriatric Medicine, Leon Flicker, will present current strategies to prevent dementia. Other leading local neuroscientists will also present their findings on stroke and Parkinson's disease.

The second session will focus on the opportunities of Neuroimaging with the Director of the Monash University Biomedical Imaging Facility, Professor Gary Egan the keynote speaker.
