Congratulations to Guy Armstrong, the winner of a $500 voucher to spend on a bike or bicycle equipment at Glen Parker Cycles Nedlands.

Guy was one of many visitors to the Sustainable Development tent at O-Day who entered the draw to win by making an environmental pledge.

Guy’s pledge was to ‘not use plastic bags and get more involved in the Swan River Trust’, both great ideas in reducing waste and getting involved with environmental initiatives. Well done Guy!

He wasn’t the only person to make a meaningful commitment with others pledging to use alternative transport, reduce their air-conditioning use, have shorter showers, buy local produce, switch off lights when leaving rooms and much more.

Visitors also told us what steps they’d like UWA to take to reduce its environmental impact. Some great suggestions were received and will be used in the section’s planning for 2011.

There was a lot of fun to be had too with visitors whipping up their own milkshakes by pedaling a power-generating pushbike.

Thanks to all who took part and made the day such a success.
