Responding to national and international trends in quality teaching, the Graduate School of Education has introduced the Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching to assist tertiary educators working in higher education

The Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching will assist lecturers and tutors in higher education to develop teaching expertise and skill in their respective disciplines in this course there is a focus on the ways students learn, meaningful evaluation and assessment  combined with curriculum design and the use of digital technologies in education.

This Graduate Certificate will provide practising higher education teachers with a formal qualification that endorses their professionalism as teaching academics.

Assistant Professor Mark Pegrum is the Course Coordinator and teaches mainly in the area of e-learning. In 2010 he was presented with the national Australian Learning & Teaching Council (ALTC) Excellence in Teaching Award.

His research focuses on the increasing integration of web 2.0 and mobile technologies into everyday life, and examines the pedagogical, social and sociopolitical implications of phenomena such as blogs and wikis, podcasts and video mashups, social networking sites and virtual worlds. He is a co-ordinator of the Third Spaces in Online Discussion project, which focuses on cross-cultural interaction in virtual classrooms, and also conducting research on digital literacies .

In 2007, his book Brave New Classrooms: Democratic Education and the Internet co-edited with Joe Lockard, was published by Peter Lang, New York. His most recent book From Blogs to Bombs: The Future of Digital Technologies in Education , was published in 2009 by UWA Publishing, Perth.
