The Dean of the Business School at The University of Western Australia, Professor Tracey Horton, will leave the position in August next year, UWA Vice-Chancellor Professor Alan Robson said today.

"Professor Horton has led the transformation of the UWA Business School into a nation-wide leader in business teaching and research.  When she leaves, she will have held the position for more than six years and has decided to leave the University to pursue other interests," Professor Robson said.

"In leading the UWA Business School, Professor Horton has developed close relationships with business, industry and government which has attracted a strong Board of significant WA business leaders to work with the Business School.

"As Dean, she has also overseen a fundraising campaign which raised more than $25 million; the design and construction of a $45 million building; and has positioned the School to take advantage of new opportunities and growth in the State and across the region," Professor Robson said.

He said Professor Horton's decision to provide early notice of her departure from the University will ensure sufficient time to recruit a new Dean to build on Professor Horton's achievements.

The Chair of the Business School Board, Mr Mark Barnaba, also paid tribute to Professor Horton.

"Tracey's contribution to the Business School, the broader University and indeed the WA business community has been outstanding" Mr Barnaba said.  "Tracey's leadership, drive and energy has led to the achievement of the vision to bring together all parts of the Business School in a state-of-the-art building that embodies a spirit of openness, lateral thinking and collaborative partnerships, supported by a Futures Fund that provides exciting new challenges and opportunities for the Business School."
