To facilitate collaboration in teaching and research as well as exchange of ideas and knowledge, the University of Western Australia has tied up with Bangalore-based RV College of Engineering.

A team from UWA, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Robyn Owens and Australian Cricket team opening batsman Simon Katich visited the college on Thursday and signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard.

Professor Owens said that the collaboration would generate solutions of global significance.

"India represents a wonderful opportunity for research collaborations with UWA as we share a unique set of common and complementary interests," she said.

Hopeful

B.S. Satyanarayana, principal of RV College of Engineering, said the institution is looking forward to this collaboration with UWA "as many areas of interest of the institute in terms of sustainable development and renewable energy activities matched with the advanced research and development activities of UWA".

"We are ambitious to be among the top 100 institutions in the next five to 10 years and we hope this MoU will help us move forward," he said.

The University of Western Australia and Simon Katich are partners in international excellence.

Mr Katich said: "I have no doubt my experience as a student of UWA has had a huge impact on my cricketing career.  It enabled me to relax and enjoy my cricket knowing I had a qualification behind me."

UWA and Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, also signed an MoU on October 11.  Winthrop Professor Hema Sharda, who is also the Director of South Asia relations Vice-Chancellery along with Prof. Owens, exchanged ideas with IIM Bangalore for future collaborations, a spokesperson for UWA said.
