UWA Publishing title, "It's Still In My Heart, This Is My Country:" The Single Noongar Claim History, has won the Human Rights Award for Literature (non-fiction).

UWAP Director, Terri-ann White congratulated John Host, Chris Owen, and all those involved in the production of this very important work of social commentary.

The book presents substantial evidence detailing the history, customs and laws of the Noongar people, their relationship to their land, their rights and interests, and their survival against great odds - from colonization to the present day.

Human Rights Commission President Catherine Branson QC, said the shortlists for this year were judged from more than 200 high-quality entries nominated from around Australia.

This is the second award win for "It's Still In My Heart, This Is My Country:" The Single Noongar Claim History, which won the 2010 Margaret Medcalf Award.

Chris Owen is the Research Manager and Historian at SWALSC. He has been researching Noongar history since 2003 and was involved in the Single Noongar Claim (SNC) litigation.
