COFS, in collaboration with Keppel Offshore and Marine Pty Ltd, Singapore, was recently awarded an ARC Linkage Grant in the latest ARC funding round. COFS was also awarded an ARC Discovery Grant.

ARC Discovery Project: Predicting the foundation performance of offshore jack-up drilling rigs in intermediate soils

Dr Britta Bienen , Prof Mark J Cassidy

ARC Funding

  • 2011 $85,000
  • 2012 $85,000
  • 2013 $80,000
  • 2014 $80,000

Australian Postdoctoral Fellowship Dr Britta Bienen

Project Summary

The research outcomes will be a major step forward in creating safer operations of mobile platforms in our challenging seabed conditions. The new models and guidelines will assist engineers in the efficient expansion of our offshore oil and gas industry, with significant increased investment projected over the next five years.

ARC Linkage Project: Estimation of spudcan penetration resistance in stratified soils directly from field penetrometer data and quantification of punch-through risk

COFS: Dr Muhammad S Hossain , Prof Mark F Randolph , Prof Mark J Cassidy .

Keppel Offshore and Marine : Dr Okky A Purwana, Dr Matthew Quah.

ARC Funding

  • 2011 $173,438
  • 2012 $107,888
  • 2013 $128,578

Australian Postdoctoral Fellowship (Industry) Dr Muhammad S Hossain

Partner/Collaborating Organisation: Keppel Offshore and Marine Pty Ltd

Project Summary

Foundations for mobile drilling rigs exhibit significant failure rate in the offshore oil and gas industry, which contributes $22 billion annually to the Australian economy. The project will develop a robust design approach for these foundations, based on field penetrometer data and accounting for the highly stratified nature of offshore sediments.
