The Minister for Education and Tourism, the Hon Dr Elizabeth Constable launched the Master of Teaching (Early Childhood) at the University Club of WA on Tuesday October 26.

Dr Constable shared her insights on the value of a high quality early childhood teacher education course that will provide the best outcomes for children.

The Graduate School of Education welcomed the opportunity to share the vision and importance of our Master of Teaching (Early Childhood) with the Minister, school partners, Nedlands Primary School choir, university colleagues and early childhood specialists. Assistant Professor Robert Faulkner and Associate Professor Grace Oakley have developed a comprehensive high calibre early childhood course that will cover the breadth of learning required in early childhood. The synthesis of literacy and numeracy with the creative arts in authentic classroom settings is an exciting approach and one that will add to the quality of early childhood educators in Western Australia.

Students from the Child Study Centre at UWA provided some very colourful artwork for the launch of the course. The Child Study Centre will play a pivotal role in providing in depth early childhood expertise and practicum experience for the Master of Teaching (Early Childhood).

It was a great treat for us all to have the Nedlands Primary School Junior Choir singing so gloriously at the  Early Childhood launch, and it reminded us that through singing together we learn so many things - teamwork, persistence, following rules, having fun, listening carefully, and most of all making beautiful joyful music.  Every student looked , and sang, wonderfully, with passion and enthusiasm. A great deal of preparation is needed to achieve a performance of this very high standard. A special thank you to the teachers, students and parents.
