The Centre for Energy is holding two workshops for related courses - Introduction to Natural Gas Processing and LNG Production. Lectures will be followed by hands-on simulation examples and problem solving sessions using process flowsheet simulation program.

Introduction to natural gas processing (23-23 November 10)

  • Natural Gas
  • Physical Properties
  • Phase Equilibria
  • Gas Transport
  • Gas Treatment Processes
  • Water and Gas
  • Acid Gas & Acid Gas Removal

LNG production (24-26 November 2010)

  • Refrigeration & LNG Basics
  • Refrigeration Fundamentals
  • Multistage Refrigeration
  • Basic Principles of LNG
  • Basic LNG Plant Models
  • LNG Processes Overview
  • Some Operating Problems
  • Summary

Workshop instructors include:

  • Andrew Vieler (pictured) B.Sc., M.Sc. (Chemical Engineering). Andrew is a Process model development and applied thermodynamics expert.
  • Eric May, Chevron Professor of Gas Process Engineering, Centre for Energy at UWA.
  • Brent Young, Director of the Industrial Information and Control Centre, Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at The University of Auckland, and Adjunct Professor at the University of Calgary.

Participants may attend the whole course, the first two or three days, or the latter two or three days. As refrigeration is an important feature of natural gas and LNG plants, we recommend that you attend this day.
