Congratulations are in order for a number of students and staff from the School of Music, with award winners, praised performances, scholarship auditions and an acceptance into a national music program.

2010 Vose Memorial Prize is awarded to violinist Sophie Edelman
Sophie Edelman is a second year student at the School of Music studying with Dr Semyon Kobets.  The staff at the School of Music would like to congratulate Sophie on her winning performance at the Artistry! Concert Six:  Orchestral Opulence held on Friday 8 October at Winthrop Hall.  High praise also goes to Vose finalists Jessica Armstrong and Jeremy Huynh who both gave outstanding performances providing Sophie with strong competition.  Sophie’s performance of the first movement of Mozart’s Concerto No. 5 in A Major won her the School’s top performance prize, which has a long history at the School of Music.

Artistry! Concert Six: Orchestral Opulence
The staff and students from the School of Music involved in last Friday night's Orchestral Opulence concert should be congratulated. Celebrated conductor and School of Music staff member Peter Moore, OAM led the orchestra in a performance of the highest calibre of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3 (Eroica) which received a warm ovation from the large audience.

Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM)
Jessica Armstrong (French horn), Julie Igglesden (oboe), Sharon Chung (piano), Siang Ching Ngu (piano), Thomas Higham (viola) and Kiran Phatak (flute) have all been invited to the final round of ANAM auditions for 2011 full scholarship places. The Australian National Academy of Music in Melbourne, Australia's premier institution for training elite young classical musicians, conducts a thorough, rigorous and highly competitive national audition process.  The School of Music is proud of these accomplishments by its performance students.

Piano Students’ Success
Sharon Chung and Siang Ching Ngu are to be commended for being accepted into the Australian Youth Orchestra Chamber Players.  Sharon and Siang Ching have also recently received an AMEB LMus (Licentiate of Music) Diploma.  Second year piano student Linette Liam is also to be congratulated for being accepted into the Australian Youth Orchestra Orchestral Program for 2011.

WASO-Sponsored Violin Masterclass by International Artist, Renaud Capuçon
On Wednesday 6 October, UWA hosted an inspiring master class by international violin soloist, Renaud Capuçon, a collaborative venture with WASO, AUSTA WA and WAAPA made possible through WASO’s Education program.  School of Music student Sophie Edelman performed, along with 14-year old Julia Nicholls, WAAPA’s Adrian Yeo and WASO violinist Rebecca White.
