The recent federal election prompted a huge increase in visits to the Australian Politics and Elections Database website .
In the month from 14 August to 14 September there were over 39,000 visits to the website, almost forty times the usual figure. While 26,000 visits originated from 83 locations around Australia, the remaining 13,000 came from over 2,400 cities in 165 other countries around the world, from Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago, to Shibuya in Japan.
The website grew out of research in Political Science and International Relations, and has been supported by several research grants, the School of Social and Cultural Studies, the Faculty of Arts, and the central administration of the University.
What was originally conceived as a political science research tool for studying Australian and comparative politics has grown into a much used resource for anyone interested in Australian elections, political parties, and parliamentary government; it reflects the University’s contribution to Australian and comparative research in the social sciences and its reputation for excellence, innovation and enterprise.
