If there are students at your school who are interested in studying at UWA but have had their academic achievements adversely affected by certain disadvantages, encourage them to apply through our UWay scheme. Applications close at 4pm on Thursday 30 September 2010.

UWay is available to all WACE and TEE students who are Australian citizens or permanent residents. Students who have appled through TISC and lodged a UWay application will have their ATAR adjusted according to the disadvantage they have experienced. If their actual ATAR falls below the cut-off for their desired UWA course, their UWay adjusted ATAR may gain them a place.

Criteria for consideration include:

  1. attending a school where very few students in Year 11 and 12 are interested in tertiary education
  2. rural isolation, where "rural" is defined as a distance of more than 75km from the nearest Central Business District
  3. lack of a supportive study environment in the family home
  4. needing to engage in excessive part-time employment to help supplement the family's income
  5. excessive family responsibilities
  6. disruption of education due to relocation or difficult migrant passage
  7. a period of long illness or a medical condition, which is now over or is abating or is being managed effectively
  8. bereavement
  9. other disadvantage not covered in criteria 1-8.

UWay applications must be accompanied by a completed School Nomination form. The UWay website provides a full explanation of the application process, including all of the appropriate forms to download. All applications are dealt with in the strictest confidence.
