Thinking Science Australia, the two year program of professional development for teachers implementing the cognitive acceleration (CASE) program in Western Australian (WA) schools, has launched a new internet site to keep in contact with WA teachers involved in the program.

This is an intervention program, carried out in 30 science lessons over a two-year period. The aim is to improve the way students in years 8 and 9 understand and think about ideas and concepts and apply that to everyday problems.
A recent meta analysis of data on thinking skills shows that the Thinking Science program has a demonstrable impact on student cognition.

This effect is not limited to only science lessons but improves students' thinking across all subjects. The thinking skills students gain, lead to improved performance in school examinations long after the Thinking Science program has been taught.

“The new website provides a resources point for teachers who are either participating in the program or for new teachers who want to know a little more before they join up”, said Assistant Professor, Mary Oliver, coordinator of the program at the University of Western Australia.
