This year, our postgraduate students have received a number of awards.

Sophie Smith, an Honours student, is currently studying in China under a Prime Minister's Australia Asia Endeavour Undergraduate Award.

Sophie, a student in Music and Asian Studies, received the award from the then Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd. She will take classes in anthropology and sociology at Beijing University and will study Chinese music at the Beijing Conservatorium. One of Sophie's supervisors during her Honours studies was Assistant Professor Jonathan McIntosh who Sophie acknowledged on receipt of her award for his support and guidance.

DMA student Daniel Masmanian has been selected for the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra's Composer's School for his orchestral work "Scurrilous Words" taking place in September. Daniel is one of five composers selected nationwide.

Congratulations to clarinettist Ashley William Smith for winning the ‘Other Instruments Final' at the recent 2010 ABC Symphony Australia Young Performers Awards.  Ashley trained with Allan Meyer and graduated from the School of Music in 2008 with first class honours going on to study at the Australian National Academy of Music where he is now an Academy Fellow. For his winning performance Ashley played ‘Clarinet Concerto' by Ross Edwards.
