COFS is pleased to offer our congratulations to Professor Susan Gourvenec and Assistant Professor Noel Boylan on their recently announced promotions.

Susan Gourvenec completed her PhD at University of Southampton, England in 1998. She then joined the Soils Group at the University of Cambridge, as a Research Associate. Susan started with us at COFS in 2001 as a Research Fellow and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2005.

Susan's main research areas are: Offshore shallow foundations and anchoring systems, Numerical analysis and centrifuge modeling, Bearing capacity under general loading, Bearing capacity in uplift capacity and Consolidation around shallow foundations.

Noel Boylan obtained his B.E. (Civil) degree from University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland in 2004. He then continued at UCD and carried out research on the shear strength of peat towards a PhD degree. He completed his PhD in 2008, and joined COFS shortly afterwards as a Research Associate.

Noel's current research interests are in the areas of submarine mass movements, pipelines, In-situ testing and its interpretation for design and soil mechanics.

This is deserved recognition for their personal contribution to scholarship and teaching and to advancing the international reputation of COFS and Civil Engineering at UWA.
