Career diplomat and University of Western Australia alumni Sue Boyd will return to UWA next week to deliver the second annual UWA Historical Society lecture.

Her lecture will give an insight into her early years on campus and her subsequent experiences and achievements.

The first woman to be head of an Australian university student body, Sue Boyd was Elected President of the Guild of Undergraduates at UWA in 1969.

It was a heady time for Sue to be a student leader, as student riots in the US and France, and a tidal wave of protest against Australia’s involvement in Vietnam, made students aware of their power to make significant changes in the university and society.

The networks made and experiences gained during this period, laid the foundation for her fulfilling career as a senior Australian diplomatic representative in Europe, North America, Asia and the Pacific.

The UWA Historical Society was launched by UWA Vice Chancellor Professor Alan Robson in October 2008 to encourage appreciation of university history amongst staff, students, graduates and the community.
