UWA Publishing author Brian Dibble has been shortlisted for the 2010 National Biography Award for his biography of prominent WA writer, Elizabeth Jolley.

Doing Life: A Biography of Elizabeth Jolley details the remarkable experiences of Elizabeth Jolley, from her upbringing in England and Scotland, her days spent in boarding schools and hospital wards, and her independent adult life in Australia.

Given complete access to the writer's private papers, as well as interviewing several hundred people worldwide, Dibble has presented a thorough and sincere display of her life.

Director of UWAP, Terri-ann White said she was extremely pleased with the short listing.

"Elizabeth Jolley is an important part of our literary history. Brian's heartfelt account of her intriguing, tumultuous and successful life is essential reading for anyone interested in Australian literature," she said.
