Two PhD students from the Oceans Institute competed in the first round of the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences heat of the UWA's inaugural Three Minute Thesis Competition held on Tuesday 15th June. Twelve students competed in this first round.

Janelle Braithwaite and Ryan Kempster have been selected as semi-finalists in the UWA Three Minute Thesis competition. Janelle was selected on the basis of her presentation at the FNAS heat event yesterday, and Ryan has been given a "wild card".The Graduate Research School will host a University wide semi-finals and finals event on Thursday 15th July in the Social Sciences Lecture Theatre.

Prizes:

  • University Final Winner: $3,000 travel or research grant and the opportunity to travel, all expenses paid to represent UWA at the National and/or Trans-Tasman Final at the University of Queensland in 2010.
  • University Final Runner up: $1,000 travel or research grant
  • Top 9 University Semi-finalists: $100 book voucher
  • People's choice award winner: $50 book voucher
  • All competitors: an original 3MT t-shirt by PHD Comics cartoonist Jorge Cham
