Thursday, 6 May 2010

On Thursday, 6 th May 2010 the Faculty held our annual prize-giving breakfast to acknowledge the achievements and congratulate those students who have excelled academically or have shown outstanding ability in their course of study.

Over 80 students won prizes in 2009, sponsored by over 63 companies and donors. The generosity of the sponsors represents a vital partnership between industry and the University. Not only do the sponsors provide financial support for our students; their participation also includes vacation employment, scholarship programmes, sponsored project work and active participation in teaching programmes.

150 guests including students and industry representatives were treated to a delicious breakfast at the University Club while listening to inspiring speeches given by the Dean, Winthrop Professor John Dell; Darren Lomman, a recent Engineering graduate and CEO of his own non-for-profit organisation, Dreamfit Foundation; and Behnam Taherian, winner of seven awards including the 2009 Faculty Medal.

Once the formalities were over, students had the opportunity to network with industry representatives from organisations including Monadelphous Group, Transfield Worley, Woodside Energy, Raytheon Australia and  Engineers Australia to name a few.

The breakfast was a huge success and would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsoring organisations and donors. Thank you! Finally, we would like to take the opportunity to offer our congratulations once again to all of the 2009 prize winners. Well done!
