The University's annual Parents Welcome will be held this Saturday 27 March from 2.00pm to 5.30pm. The Faculty is seeking staff and students who would like to volunteer to lead tours of our Faculty and/or to open their workshops or laboratories for the afternoon.

As per the Vice-Chancellor's all-staff email, the primary aim of the Parents Welcome is to introduce the parents or guardians of new undergraduates to the University, enabling them to meet key staff and learn about the support services provided to students.

The generous support of staff is vital to the success of this initiative. The University is seeking volunteers to lead campus tours on the afternoon. Both professional and academic staff are urged to participate.

There is still time to register as a volunteer tour leader, please send an email response to: [email protected] . If you are interested in hosting a visit to your lab or workshop, please contact Danni Wick on 6488 2260 or [email protected] .

In recent years up to 900 parents and guardians of new undergraduates have attended. Feedback from parents and students is always positive, which enhances the experience for the staff working on the event.

Moreover, the Parents Welcome provides academic staff with an opportunity to gain feedback about first year courses. Such feedback can be of great benefit in monitoring a course's impact and fine tuning teaching practices.

If you have any enquiries about the Parents Welcome or the role of the volunteer tour leaders, please contact Ian Lilburne in Public Affairs on 6488 7302 or [email protected] .  If you have any queries about our Faculty's involvement, please contact either Danni Wick (contact details above) or Rob Blandford on 6488 7886 or [email protected] .

Thank you.
