An Australian-first trial that will monitor the performance, environmental benefits, policy and practical implications for electric vehicle fleets will be launched at The University of Western Australia by State Minister for Transport Simon O'Brien tomorrow, Thursday, March 11.

The University, the private sector and State and local governments will join forces to help demonstrate the potential for widespread use of electric vehicles.

Initiated by CO2 Smart Pty Ltd , the trial will involve UWA's Renewable Energy Vehicle Project.  Around 10 vehicles from government and industry fleets have been converted for the trial.

Minister O'Brien will be thanking the companies and government departments who have signed up to purchase and operate a specially converted electric vehicle in their fleets for the coming two years.
