The Australian Academy of Science invites applications from professional scientists to visit Europe, North America (Canada, USA and Mexico) and North East Asia (China, Korea and Taiwan) between 1 July 2010 and 31 March 2011 to collaborate with researchers in those countries.

Proposals in any field of natural science, basic and applied, including mathematics and engineering science, will be considered. The duration of the visits must be between 14 and 40 days.

Applications should be submitted through the Research Grants Office by 12 February.

External closing date:
Friday 26 February 2010.

Note that a referee's report and letter from the host organisation must also be submitted by 26 February.

This scheme is supported by the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research's International Science Linkages (ISL) - Science Academies Program . Success in the scientific visits program can be a stepping stone to applying for larger projects under the ISL and other international linkage programs.

Applicants must propose a collaborative research project, or a specific activity, which has been developed in consultation with host scientists. Under this scheme applicants can request travel support and living expenses to access international leading-edge small to medium research facilities and equipment. Support will not be provided for costs associated with the use of these facilities or when the purpose of the visit is to attend a conference.

Success rates are high for the North East Asia scheme, but more competitive for the other schemes. The amount of funding for this year's program has not been announced. The table below features the statistics from the previous years.
