Breast Cancer:  The Facts , an informative addition to the popular series published by Oxford University Press was officially launched at the Cullity Gallery at The University of Western Australia today.  The launch also marked the opening of an art exhibition featuring images and drawings from local artists, presenting an alternative dimension into the journey of breast cancer survivorship.

Written by UWA Professor Christobel Saunders and Dr Sunil Jassal, Breast Cancer:  The Facts covers all aspects of the diagnosis and management of breast cancer in a clear and concise manner, with a focus on the patient journey.  The book will assist health professionals, and provide valuable information for patients, their families and friends, guiding readers informatively along the breast cancer journey.

The launch of Breast Cancer: The facts and the supporting exhibition combine to present a holistic view of breast cancer and celebrates the knowledge and strength gained by millions of women, breast cancer survivors, through the triumph of recovery.

The supporting exhibition features works by local artists including photographer Jacquie Moran, whose portraits are featured in the book and document various aspects of breast cancer.  The exhibition also includes anatomical drawings by artist Hans Arkeveld, drawings by Jon Tarry and optical images by Robert McLaughlin.  Through the use of this alternative but universal medium of imagery, the art exhibition deepens our understanding of the breast cancer journey through visual interpretation.

The art exhibition will remain in the Cullity Gallery from 18 January until 1 February 2010 for public viewing and entry is free of charge.  Opening hours at the Cullity Gallery are Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.
