Visiting Nobel Laureate Professor Carl Wieman will next month give a free public lecture on "Teaching Science in the 21 st Century".

The Director of the Carl Wieman Science Education Initiative ( www.cwsei.ubc.ca ) claims even good teachers are ‘getting it wrong' .

Professor Wieman will discuss the failures of traditional teaching and reveal some new practices and technology that result in a more effective approach.

The eminent scientist has been recognised with numerous awards including the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2001 for the first creation of and early experiments on Bose-Einstein condensation.

WHAT:            Science Education in the 21 st Century: Using the methods of science to teach science.

WHERE:          University Club Theatre Auditorium, UWA.  The nearest carpark is P3 off Hackett Entrance 1.

WHEN:            6pm, Monday December 7, 2009.
