The risk of terrorism and the use of state-sponsored torture are inextricably linked behaviours, according to a new book by academics from The University of Western Australia.
Terrorism and Torture: An Interdisciplinary Perspective authored and edited by Werner G. K. Stritzke, Stephan Lewandowsky, David Denemark, Joseph Clare and Frank Morgan was launched by UWA's Institute of Advanced Studies.
Originating from a three-day intensive UWA symposium that reflected an international collaboration of experts, the authoritative volume is published by Cambridge University Press.
"One of our key objectives was to ask scholars from a diverse range of disciplines to examine the complex factors contributing to terrorist acts and state-sponsored torture, the potential linkage between those two heinous behaviours, and the strategies that might reduce the threat of terrorist acts," said co-author Professor Lewandowsky.
Professor Terri-ann White, Director of the Institute of Advanced Studies, said she was pleased to have been involved with the project.
"IAS' mission is to encourage cross-disciplinary research, and we are pleased that this event has resulted in the publication of such an important collection of research," she said
