The Faculty is pleased to offer our congratulations to NHMRC grants recipients: Winthrop Professor David Smith , Research Associate Professor Bruce Gardiner and Professor Karol Miller .
The grants will support the following projects:
1) AusCAN risk assessment for sitting acquired pressure ulcers - $1,646,750
STACEY, Prof Michael; BADER, Prof Daniel; SWAINE, Ms Jillian; MIDDLETON, A/Pr James; OLVER, Dr James; HAYES, Prof Keith; GARBER, Prof Susan; HENDRIE, Dr Delia; MILLER, Prof Karol
2) Hypoxia is the common pathway to renal failure - $478,125
EVANS, A/Pr Roger, BERTRAM, Prof John, SCHLAICH, A/Pr Markus, GARDINER, A/Pr Bruce, SMITH, Prof David, PHILLIPS, Prof Jaqueline
Even though there are only two successful NHMRC grants, the total funding for them is about $2.1M , which represents about 35% of the total ARC Discovery Project and ARC Linkage grant income from 15 grants ($5,8M).
In other words, it is a significant source of funding (the combine NHMRC schemes have about twice as much money in them as the ARC schemes combined). It is also possible in the NHMRC grants for a CI to ask for their own salary to be funded, which one cannot do in the ARC schemes.
