The appointment of two new Winthrop Professors of Law have been confirmed. The successful candidates are Professor Mark Israel of Flinders University Law School and Ms Holly Cullen, who currently holds a Readership in Law at Durham University in the United Kingdom.

Professor Israel is an internationally recognised expert in criminal justice (specialising in criminology), with a very distinguished teaching record, having won the Prime Minister’s Award for Australian University Teacher of the Year in 2004.  He has recently served as Associate Head (Research) and is currently Faculty Adviser on Integrity in Research in the Faculty of Education, Humanities, Law and Theology at Flinders University. Mark will be taking up his appointment in January 2010.

Professor Holly Cullen joined the Department of Law at Durham University in 1995 and has been a Reader in Law at that institution since 2003. Her areas of teaching and research expertise are international law and also legal theory. Holly’s most recent book is entitled The Role of International Law in the Elimination of Child Labor (2007). She is currently Secretary of the Board of Studies in Law at Durham, having recently served three-year terms as Director of Postgraduate Studies and Director of Postgraduate Research.  Holly will take up her appointment in April or June of 2010.
